Sphagnum Medium
Sphagnum Medium (Live Inoculum)
Taxonomy & Habit: A robust species belonging to the Sphagnum magellanicum complex, typical of ombrotrophic mires and acidic wetlands. It is characterized by medium-to-large caulids (stems) with a branching architecture arranged in fascicles of 3 to 5 rami.
Foliar Morphology & Chromatism: The stem phyllids (leaves) are spreading or flattened, with dimensions that are moderate relative to the plant's overall habit (measuring approximately 1 to 2 times the stem section). A key diagnostic feature is its ability to synthesize secondary pigments, frequently exhibiting reddish or vinaceous coloration (erythrism) in response to solar exposure, distinguishing it visually within the bryophyte layer.
