Sphagnum Rubellum (Live Inoculum)

Morphology & Habit: A graceful species within the Acutifolia section, typical of acidic ombrotrophic bogs. It is characterized by its small, acute (pointed) branch phyllids, which imbricate densely to form fine mats.

Physiology & Hydrology (Transparency): Its survival capability lies in its specialized cellular anatomy. A significant portion of its biomass consists of hyalocysts: large, dead, and transparent cells (lacking chlorophyll). These structures act as microscopic cisterns, retaining up to 20 times their weight in water. This structural "transparency" not only facilitates hydration but also gives the moss a vitreous or crystalline appearance when saturated.
